The Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Centers, Inc. raise $4.5 million to fund expansion plans

In October 2005, we led a $4.5 million Series E investment in Dallas-based Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Centers, Inc. (FFC).  Joining us in this investment were existing investor Reservoir Venture Partners and several existing angel investors.  As a part of this financing, our Partner Wilson Orr joined FFC’s board.

FFC, which currently operates 13 clinics, treats patients suffering from conditions known as fibromyalgia (FM) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).  FM and CFS are life-altering conditions whose primary symptoms include chronic pain and extreme exhaustion.  An estimated 3.5 to 6.5 million people in the United States suffer from these conditions.  The team at FFC, including founder and Chairman Bob Baurys, has done a super job developing and growing the business, and we are very happy to be partnered with them.

Commensurate with our investment, Dave Gnass assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer at FFC.  With over 25 years of healthcare services experience, Dave’s more recent posts include CEO of National Specialty Clinics and COO of American Homepatient.  We are excited that Dave has joined Bob and the rest of the FFC team and are confident that together they can enhance an already great business.

SSM joins leading health care industry organization

We are happy to report that we recently became a member of the Nashville Health Care Council.  Given our focus on the industry and our proximity and commitment to the Nashville health care market, the opportunity to support the Council was a perfect fit.  Matt Gallivan and his team have done a wonderful job at the NHCC, and we are very glad to be a part of their program.

Just so you know… The NHCC is an association of health care industry leaders working together to support and promote Nashville's position as a hub for leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship in the health care sector.  The Council promotes the continued growth of Nashville's health care industry by fostering a supportive operating environment for existing, start-up and relocating health care businesses. Through educational programs, the Council provides executives with timely information on key operational and policy challenges facing health care companies, as well as networking and mentoring activities.  For more information visit www.healthcarecouncil.com

SSM supports the Nashville Capital Network

We are also happy to report that we are now sponsors of the Nashville Capital Network.  Led by Chairman Tom Wylly and Executive Director Sid Chambless, the NCN does a great job advising entrepreneurs as they draft business plans, raise capital and strike key early-stage developmental relationships.

Here’s a little more information… the NCN is a collaborative initiative of Vanderbilt University, the Nashville Technology Council, Nashville Health Care Council, local investors, as well as local business and professional leaders. The NCN strives to promote entrepreneurial education and economic growth by becoming the hub for early stage capital formation in middle Tennessee.  For more information visit www.nashvillecapital.com.
